Major Drug Bust at IGI Airport: DRI Seizes Cocaine Worth ₹75.6 Crore from Passenger Arriving from Dubai

In a big win against international drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out a major seizure at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on April 14, 2024. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an Indian woman who had just arrived from Dubai—and what they found in her luggage was shocking.

After a detailed examination of her baggage, officers discovered five seemingly ordinary handbags. But these bags held a dangerous secret. When the inner layers of the handbags were cut open, they revealed ten packets of a white powdery substance. Lab testing confirmed it was cocaine, weighing a total of 7.56 kg. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around ₹75.6 crore.

The passenger has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and is now in custody. Meanwhile, the DRI has launched a full-scale investigation to trace the origins of the drug consignment and identify the network behind this smuggling attempt.

This operation highlights how smugglers are using increasingly creative methods to traffic narcotics—and the importance of strong intelligence and vigilance by enforcement agencies like the DRI.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story unfolds.
