Govt Promotes IRS Officers to JCIT Grade, Assigns Additional Powers
By CBDT Order No.331 of 2023 dated 31.12.2023 issued by F.No.A-32012/5/2023- Ad.VI, the President of India was pleased to promote officers of Indian Revenue Service to the grade of Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (lCIT) w.e.f. 01.01.2024 or the date they assume charge to the post of JCIT, whichever is earlier. The aforesaid order stated that the promotions are being effected on in-situ basis and the officers will continue to discharge the same functions and duties as they were discharging before their promotion until further orders.
2. In pursuance to the above and in exercise of the powers conferred by Explanation to subsection (I) of section 120 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 as also section 59 of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 (45 of 1988), it is hereby ordered that the officers referred to in column (3) of the table hereunder, in the grade of Joint Commissioners ofincometax shall exercise the powers and perform the functions of the Income-tax Authority, referred to in columns (4) of the table hereunder in consequence to and from the date of the OrderNo.33 l of 2023 dated 31.12.2023 issued from F.No.320l2/5/2023-Ad. VI, and until further orders.
