THREE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF INCOME TAX AND TWO OTHERS IN A BRIBERY CASE
The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Indore (Madhya Pradesh) has today convicted Shri Pankaj Gupta, then Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Indore; Shri Ajay Viren, then ITO, Indore & Shri Shyam Sunder Mundra, a Charted Accountant and sentenced them to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 80,000/- in a bribery case.
CBI had registered a case against Shri Pankaj Gupta, then Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Indore and Shri Ajay Viren, the then ITO, Indore on the allegations of demanding an illegal gratification of Rs. 9 lakh for showing favour to Complainant in connection with settlement of Income Tax.
After investigation, CBI filed chargesheet against the accused. During trial, 33 prosecution witnesses were examined.
The Trial Court found the said accused guilty and convicted them.
